The activity for week 11 is to make a sculpture of in the sand at the beach.
I chose to make a sculpture of my left feet at Huntington Beach. At first I did not know what I was going to do because I did not have any rides that would take me to the beach, but luckily my father and his friends were on their way to the beach to have a BBQ. So I tagged along to do the art activity. When I was making a hole for my foot, I had trouble keeping the mold to say without caving in. I had to kind of stick my hand into the hole and try to add make it stable. After it was done it looks more like a shoe then my foot. It ended up more roundish at the end and bottom.
I wouldn’t say I had that much fun making the sculpture, but It was something new. I wasn’t too bored waiting for the mold to harden because I was at the BBQ for most of the wait time. It was refreshing to go to the beach after being at home studying most of the time. I really loved the cool breeze of the ocean. The weather wasn’t too warm or too chilly. It was windy and the ocean water was pretty cold. I had a great time, but it would be more fun if I went with some friends.
It was very bright so I did not notice my finger in the way of the picture…
Another sculpting that I did was 3D printing legs and feet with my 3D printer. I asked Glenn if I could 3D print for the sculpting activity instead of going to the beach and he said that he still wants me to make a sculpture with plaster. He said that I could still sculpt with my 3D printer and get extra credit for it. I wasn’t sure if this sculpting project required to use either a hand or feet as basis, so I just 3D printed legs.
My artist interview for week 8 is Brian Davis.
This week’s art display was very interesting. It was something that you do not see everyday when it comes to “artwork”. When I went into the gallery, one corner has a stall where Brian is blending different vegetables and fruits. Another corner someone was soldiering things and had a fortune telling box on the table. There was also a corner where you can put anything on the art display and take a picture of it as if you were a professional photographer. It was the first time I have every seen something like that. I really liked the art because it was out of the ordinary. I also like it because it was something that you could physically watch and in some cases, do yourself. When Brian was blending the vegetables and fruits, he does not have a set recipe that he follows. He kind of just picks something on the table and puts them in one at a time. It was fun watching him cut the vegetables into small size and put them into the blender. He was giving out the juice that was blended to the students to try.
The one I like to watch the most was the soldiering type workbench. Someone was soldiering things together on a bread board and using wires to make something work. Unfortunately, it was not working so I do not know what it was suppose to do. The reason why I like it is because it was related to my major. I am a Computer Engineer and I had to deal with circuits as well. It was just cool to see something related to my major in an art-110 activity. Overall I want to say that the art was interesting and fun. It was fun watching people do things in the form of art. There were also couch and pillows in the room for guests to relax on!
My artist interview for week 7 is Juliette Angulo.
Juliette’s art involves pictures of her sister except she is cut out of the image. Juliette has a younger sister who joined the military. Her sister is a Mechanical engineer who fix Apache helicopters for the army. Juliette’s sister was a big part of her life so when she enlisted to the army, she lost someone important. She said although she still talks to her via message or Skype, it felt weird not being able to spend time with her being physically there. Her sister lives on a base in El Paso, Texas and is on a trip to Kuwait. Her sister just turned 21 and will be on the trip for roughly 9 months.
Juliette’s art involves the use of her sister. She is trying to convey a message of how her sister joining the military caused her pain and loneliness. her art has pictures that she took of her sister. She cut an outline of her sister out to show how she is missing from her life. Aside from her art with photography, she is currently working with metals for her artwork. I don’t have anyone in my family who is enlisted in the military so I can not imagine how it must of felt. It is good that her sister will be coming back some times in July or August.
I thought her artwork was pretty interesting. Even though she just cut a picture, it leaves a huge impression on the audience. It is simple, yet has a big meaning to it.
While watching the video game kickstarter videos, I think the Underworld Ascendant game is better compaired to the Shadowstar Corsirs board game. Even though these two are different types of games, I would say the Underworld video by OtherSide Entertainment presented their kickstarter in a better fashion. When I was watchin Underworld Ascendant, they talk about their previous games and what they want to do with this game. They had different people talk about their game and had a sort of music background going on while the video is running. They make their game sound like something that would be worth investing in.
The second games is Shadowstar Corsairs and I found it not as appealing as the other game. When I was watching the video, I was not impressed as to what they were starting. The video had some animations, but I felt that it was boring. The speaker had a monotone way of speaking and it did not grab my attention. If I had to give an advise, I would say to present the game with more enthusiasm. They should improve on their ability to convince the audience that their product is worth investing in.

The second area I choose was Technology between two different cameras. The first one is the GoPro and the other one is a Cycling Accessory. I think they are both pretty good ideas, but I felt that the GoPro was more convincing in presenting their product. They both give good examples throughout their video advertising their product, but I felt that the person who is presenting the GoPro did a better job. The person in the GoPro video was very energetic and outgoing when she was trying to present her camera.
Unlike the Cycling Accessory presenter where they would talk in a normal voice. It did not sound like they were excited or happy. They way they talked just seemed normal. They did not try to give a smile or anything compared to the first video. I believe the best way to convince others is to present yourself as someone who looks convincing…if that makes any sense… Well anyways, I would invest in GoPro because their video gave a happier mood.
